BBMP Elections

As you well know by now, the BBMP elections will be held on the 28th of March, 2010. You may also know that for the past three years, we have not had these elections. However, you may not have realised the importance of these elections!

BBMP Corporators are the people responsible for tarring your roads, lighting your streets and supplying your houses with water. They are the ones you will have to approach with requests for better civic amenities like a playground for your children, parks for your elders or even things like uncleared garbage in front of your house. Corporators make a direct difference to your life. It is therefore extremely important whom you choose!

A good Corporator is one who has the will to listen to your problems, intelligence to prioritise demands, and the experience to know how to execute them. An excellent Corporator however, will also have initiative, vision and the ability to work with my office to make that vision a reality. We have come a long way in the past twenty-two months that I have been in office. Still, there is a lot left to do, many dreams to make real. Cooperation between Corporators and my office is key to moving our constituency forward, for the benefit of everyone.

To this end, the Office of Krishna Byre Gowda will make efforts to promote, publicise and elect excellent candidates. Come, contribute your time and talent to help make this dream a reality.

Flood victims relief drive: Preparation

Sorting the clothes that poured inAfter the recent floods in North Karnataka, more than 185 lives were lost and the majority of those who survived were left destitute and homeless. The chances of many more lives being lost to disease and infections arising from water-borne disease and malnutrition increases with each passing day. They needed our help right away. Read more about it here.

We still need help to package more care packages. If you can spare some time, even an hour, it would help a great deal. Please call our office at 080 2362 6678 or one of our volunteer coordinators at 99028 33416.

Oct 11, 2009: Senior citizens ID card and pensions camp

After seeing the amazing response received at the camps conducted in Sahakarnagar, Vidyaranyapura and Kuvempunagar, it was clear to us that we were rendering a much needed service to the seniors, widows and the handicapped in each of the the communities. We therefore planned to bring the service to the lovely people of Ramchandrapura (Bommasandra).

But little did we know we would get an avalanche of a response! We had a big crowd waiting to get in even before we opened the gates. Once we did, people just kept coming in a steady stream throughout the day. We had to increase our capacity through the day and had more than 45 people filling out applications just to meet capacity. At lunch time we served food to those who were present but when we ran out of that too, the volunteers graciously donated the food that was set aside for them as well!

Most of the attendees had free photographs taken, photocopies of their documents made and the applications filled and filed right there on site. We even had busses ferrying peopler to and from the government's Nemmadi center to complete a vital step in the application process.

At the end of the day, we had served more than 1700 people - a new record for us! All in all, it was an experience we could walk away from feeling the deep satisfaction of having delivered a much-needed service to people who needed it.

October 8 - 13, 2009: Flood victims relief drive

After the recent floods in North Karnataka, more than 185 lives were lost and the majority of those who survived were left destitute and homeless. The chances of many more lives being lost to disease and infections arising from water-borne disease and malnutrition increases with each passing day. They needed our help right away.

Krishna initiated the Flood Victims Relief drive and started accumulating clothes and supplies from donors in and around Bangalore. The plan was to put together 5,000 survival packages and get them to the victims as soon as possible. A warehouse was set up, packaging operations began and more than a hundred volunteers worked in shifts to get everything packaged and ready for shipment.

After much toil and hard work, the first consignment of 4,000 packages headed out on the morning of October 13, 2009. Krishna accompanied the trucks to North Karnataka and will distribute the care packages to those in need. A second consignment of around 1,500 packages will go out by Wednesday.

Thanks to all the support of all the donors and volunteers who gave ever so generously, the lives of several flood victims may still be spared.

October 4, 2009: Kuvempunagar & Singapura eye, dental and pension camp

Bringing a much needed service to the people of Kuvempunagar and Singapura areas, KBG Volunteers organised a Eye, Dental and Pension camp at the government school. A huge turnout contributed to the success of the camp. More than 1200 people attended the camps of which 186 got their pension applications filed and more than 30 persons were offered free cataract and other types of eye operations.

More than 100 eye glasses were distributed by the refractologists that were handed out to those who needed it. Several other's power's were recorded and their eye glasses will be delivered to those in need within 10 days.

On Tuesday, Oct 6, 2009 ten people who agreed to get their eyes operated were taken to the hospital for their procedures.

Since there were multiple steps required in the processing of the pension applications, a fleet of five busses was organised that would escort the applicants to the nearest Nemmadi center where the final step of the application process was completed. After their applications were processed, the busses dropped the attendees back to the camp.

Lunch was distributed to all those who attended the camp.
